Daemen College seeks a candidate to provide leadership and vision for the development of a new experimental classroom that will create a space for faculty and students to experiment with cutting-edge learning technologies.  The Director of the Experimental Classroom will explore emerging technologies and identify innovative and effective pedagogies to enhance the teaching and learning environment at Daemen.  The Director will provide instructional design consultation and support for faculty in developing and delivering online, hybrid, and web-enhanced courses, and pedagogical support for faculty and students applying new instructional technologies in the face-to-face classroom.

Description of Duties:

Provide institutional vision for instructional technology by monitoring and predicting marketplace trends in instructional technology.  Identify, evaluate, and implement cutting-eduge instructional technology innovations to ensure pedagogical excellence and outstanding student learning.  Technologies may include multimedia formats, social media, mobile applications, audio/visual and multimedia formats, animation, virtual cave and other emerging technologies. 

Design, develop and deliver a comprehensive system to promote instructional excellence, including faculty workshops, one-on-one consultations, and on-line tutorials from introductory to advanced levels.

Provide pedagogical and instructional design consultations to faculty content-exports to develope new, or translate and/or augment existing courses, for on-line,hybrid or web-enhanced formats.  Consult with faculty on new instructional initiatives; define parameters of projects involving pedagogical applications or technologies.  Assist faculty with technologies including the learning management system, web conferencing, ePortfolio, and mobile technologies.

Provide instructional design support for Learning Management System (Blackboard) including training, support, content analysis, design, development, assessment, and identification of learning goals and objectives.

Design, develop and deliver student training programs preparing them for online learning and the use of other learning technologies at the College.  Produce and revise faculty, staff and student online learning guides and training materials. 

Requirements:

Minimum of a BA/BS required.  A Master's of Science in Instructional Technology/Instructional Systems Design preferred.

Three years of related experience in areas such as instructional design and/or classroom or web-based teaching using various instructional technologies.  College teaching experience is preferred.

 Desired Experience:

Ability to facilitate collaboration between IT and academic units.  Verbal and written communication skills in technical and non-technical areas; including communicating technical information in terms understandable to end-users, and communicating pedagogical concerns to technology staff.

Experience designing and delivering professional development on learning, teaching & technology for faculty, staff and students at beginning to advanced levels of proficiency.

Background in adult learning, pedagogy or workshop and training design.  Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design, development, evaluation of instructional programs, materials, and instruments.

Experience conducting needs assessments and environmental scans to anticipate external technology trends and internal technology and training needs.

Proven ability to build effective, collaborative relationships with end-users, especially faculty from a variety of disciplines.

Technical requirements:

Experience with Course/Learning Management Systems

Expertise in the use of Web 2.0 technologies, mobile devices and applications, and emerging educational technologies.

Familiarity with ADA compliance for the use of learning technologies by students with disabilities, and with intellectual property and copyright issues related to on-line courses.

Expertise in the use of Adobe Connect, Lecture Screen Capture and Editing Software, ePortfolio, HTML, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office preferred.

Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and apply problem-solving skills to technical problems and research for answers. 

Salary: commensurate with experience.
