Assistant or Associate Professor, Information & Communication Technologies and Social Media; Position No. 0070041, University of Hawaii, College of Social Sciences, School of Communications, permanent, general funds, full-time, 9-month, tenure-track appointment, to begin August 1, 2011, subject to position clearance and availability of funds. Duties: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in information and communication technologies, social media, and policy. Supervise communication M.A. and interdisciplinary communication and information sciences Ph.D. students; share in academic advising of undergraduate students; conduct and direct research / pursue scholarly activities in areas of expertise; publish scholarly, peer-reviewed research; and perform university and professional service. Minimum Qualifications: Assistant Professor: Earned Ph.D. in Communication or a related field from an accredited college, university or foreign equivalent. ABDs with all requirements for degree completed by August 1, 2011 will be considered (completed prior to appointment). Demonstrated research and instructional abilities in information and communication technologies embedded in sociotechnical systems. Publication in refereed media or proceedings. A commitment to excellent teaching and an interest in innovative education strategies is expected of all candidates. For Associate Professor: In addition to the requirements for Assistant Professor, a minimum four (4) years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of assistant professor or equivalent, with evidence of increasing professional maturity; evidence of scholarly achievement comparable to peers at major research universities; a productive research program; experience and skills in teaching and mentoring within a university-based Ph.D. program. Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to monitor emerging trends in networked information and communication technologies. Ability to teach courses related to the socio-cultural contexts of information and communication technologies and communication policy and planning. Interest in policy and planning in the Asia-Pacific region. Interest in interdisciplinary research. Salary Range: Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
