The Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University (www.ryerson.ca/politics), invites applications for one tenure-track position, rank open, but with preference for a candidate eligible to appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The appointment will be effective August 1, 2011, subject to final budgetary approval.

In addition to contributing to Canada's first and only Interdisciplinary PhD program in Policy Studies, the Department of Politics and Public Administration delivers an MA program in Public Policy and Administration, a BA program in Politics and Governance, a BA program in Public Administration and Governance (which includes two Certificates and off-site delivery through two ground-breaking partnerships), a post-baccalaureate Certificate in Public Administration and Leadership. In addition, many faculty participate actively in a variety of other interdisciplinary endeavours through graduate and undergraduate programs and Continuing Education Certificates. The Department is housed in the Faculty of Arts, the vibrant and rapidly-expanding home of many social science and humanities disciplines, as well as considerable interdisciplinary teaching and research.
Candidates must have an earned PhD in Political Science or a related social science discipline, and a substantial record of research and teaching that will contribute to the research profile of the Department and to the ongoing success of its undergraduate and graduate programs. In addition to commitment to high quality undergraduate education, the successful candidate will be expected to take an active role in the PhD program in Policy Studies, teaching a core policy course in the program and undertaking student supervisions. S/he will have demonstrated expertise across a range of policy methodologies and theories, experience in policy research in a collaborative academic setting, be broadly published in policy journals, and should have research interests that cross policy fields/sectors.
Applicants should describe their areas of research and teaching interests and provide a current curriculum vitae, samples of their research, evidence of teaching effectiveness in the form of a teaching dossier and/or course survey results, and the names of three (3) individuals who could be contacted for a reference letter. Only the referees of those candidates selected for the short list will be contacted for letters. Review of applications will begin 10 January 2011 and will continue until the position is filled.
