Communication: The School of Communication at American University, Washington, D.C., is seeking to fill a position at the level of tenured Associate Professor or tenure-track Assistant Professor beginning August 2011. We are seeking candidates who examine the rapidly evolving connections between communication and the information needs of communities. Under what conditions can new media and communication technologies enhance democracy, improve education, and help shape a vital and inclusive public culture? How can research in this area effectively inform, support, and shape education, professional practice, media innovations, and policy change? The candidate will join current faculty in the launch of a new research center and proposed Ph.D. program in Communication that examines these questions while also collaborating with the University Library in areas related to knowledge management and information literacy. The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field with a track record of nationally recognized and externally funded research. The candidate's course load will be commensurate with other duties; most tenure-track faculty teach a 2-2 course load. Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications and experience.
