Asst Professor in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Public Policy, UCSD
Deadline: September 29 2010
Updated: September 21 2010
The School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) http://irps.ucsd.edu/ at UC San Diego (UCSD) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff and student body. The IR/PS seeks candidates, broadly, in the areas of science, technology, engineering and public policy whose research, teaching or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education. Applicants are asked to summarize their past or potential contributions to diversity in their personal statement. Preference will be given to scholars at the Assistant Professor level of the specified areas, but excellent candidates in other areas or at other levels will also be seriously considered. The primary consideration will be strong demonstrated accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego’s commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
The successful candidate will also have demonstrated the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity, or for junior scholars to have the potential thereof. Examples of applicants may be social scientists that study public policy but are steeped in the practice of engineering, biomedicine, or technological change. Other examples include engineers or scientists whose research is substantially concerned with public policy, such as on how advanced water, energy or health technologies are put into practice. Still other examples include political scientists and economists who study technological change or the determinants of national innovation, or sociologists who research the management of technology. IR/PS has a special interest in candidates who can research and teach in public policy and engineering with an international focus, including scholarship on international institutional arrangements, or scholarship and teaching that pertains to one of the regional areas of the Pacific Rim, broadly defined to include Asia and Latin America. The successful candidate will have the ability to build a research and teaching program on technology and public policy at the IR/PS. The successful candidate would also develop rich links to other UCSD units, notably the Jacobs School of Engineering.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
