√ Berea College seeks candidates for a tenure-track appointment to a multi-disciplinary humanities position, with an emphasis on media (production as well as theory) and culture. Candidates may be trained in disciplines related to visual culture and media literacy, broadly construed, and globalization and internationalization of culture. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to media ethics, media literacy, the philosophy of technology or of a medium (such as film), cultural anthropology of images or objects, cultural studies, etc. Strong candidates demonstrate experience and commitment to open, accessible engagement with undergraduate students and teaching faculty across a range of disciplines in the humanities and social sciences.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree) in a relevant discipline. Appointment begins Fall 2011, and all faculty teach in the College’s interdisciplinary General Education program. The position also requires active scholarship, advising and committee service. Teaching excellence is a paramount qualification, including demonstrated ability to engage students from different majors in rigorous study, writing, reasoning, and research.
