Assistant or associate Professorships in Communication Studies
The Department of Communication, Business, and Information Technologies at Roskilde University, Denmark, invites applications for a number of positions of Assistant and/or Associate Professor in Communication Studies to be filled by the 1st of August 2010.
Job descriptions
The main tasks will be research, teaching, projectsupervision and other forms of knowledge production and knowledge sharing activities within the field of Communication Studies, primarily in the following subject areas:
• Corporate communication
• Dialogical communication in public and private organisations
• Political communication and public affairs
• Communication in new media
• Intercultural communication
We are seeking associate professors with the experience required to take the responsibility for teaching and further innovating courses in the above subject areas, or assistant professors who can participate significantly in such tasks.
Those appointed will join the large and versatile group of scolars in communication studies, which is characterized by interdisciplinarity, openness and a broad variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. Participation to be agreed upon in one of the following research groups: Knowledge Production and Communication - Communication, and Journalism in Social Change – Visual Culture and Performance Design.
We expect that you:
• can and want to attend teaching and supervision within the field of Communication including the Basic Studies in the Humanities and the Basic Studies in the Humanities and Technology.
• can document research and teaching experience within one or more of the above subject areas within Communication studies.
• can document your research qualifications at the level of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.
• master Danish (possible Swedish/Norwegian) to the degree that you can teach and supervise in Danish and participate in the ongoing administrative and collegial cooperation.
• master English to the degree that you can teach and supervise in English.
Employment as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor
Applicants must indicate if they want to be assessed as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.
Employment as Assistant Professor requires that the applicant has documented scientific qualifications, for instance PhD or similar scientific qualifications. Employment as Assistant Professor is as a rule limited to a period of 3 years.
Employment as Associate Professor requires that the qualifications within research and teaching correspond to the gained level of a period of employment as Assistant Professor that has been completed in a satisfactory way. These qualifications can also be gained otherwise. Applicants must be able to document scientific production at international level. This employment will not be time limited.
It is an advantage if you are experienced with problem oriented project work from university teaching; however it is not a requirement. As Assistant Professor you will have to partake in RUC’s Assistant Professor Education which emphasises project pedagogy.
Salary will be in accord with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, AC. We prefer that you can start August 1st 2010 or shortly after. Roskilde University encourages applications from all interested parties regardless of age, gender, religion or ethnic background.

• CV, diplomas and a numbered list of publications with specifications of the most interesting publications in regards to this position. Applicants for the Assistant Professor position may enclose up to 5 publications. Applicants for the Associate Professor position may include up to 10 publications. The application must be sent in 3 copies, and publications sent electronically will not be accepted. The assessment committee may ask for material not included in the shortlist, which the applicant will then be required to submit.
• A statement of your experiences with research, teaching, communication and administration. Experiences must be documented if possible.
• A short description of the research and development work you expect to do in connection with your employment.
