Reporting to the Dean, Academic Strategic Planning and Development, the Associate Dean, Digital Learning is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership to the faculty and staff within the Network for Innovation and Leadership in Education at Sheridan (the Network) as well as across the college on the college’s e-learning strategy and the integration of technology into the learning environment.
The Associate Dean, Digital Learning responsibilities will include:
• Implementing an aggressive e-learning strategy for Sheridan to move the college into a leadership role for e-learning provincially, nationally and internationally;
• As a member of the senior management team within the Network developing:
o annual operational plans for the Network’s role in e-learning and the integration of technologies into the learning environment including innovation and research which enhance the college’s academic programs and implement the college’s vision and strategic goals;
o both short and long range strategic goals and plans for designated areas of responsibility;
o innovative planning and approaches for new opportunities to grow the college’s digital learning environment;
o innovative solutions to complex problems and multiple demands while ensuring compliance with college policies and procedures as well as government regulations;
• Overseeing day-to-day academic operations for various initiatives in the Network, including faculty and staff performance management through effective motivating, coaching and training as well as fiscal management;
• Facilitating ongoing and new e-learning initiatives as part of the college’s e-learning strategy to ensure the quality and reputation of programs across the college;
• Provides leadership to a team of e-learning Instructional Designers, Learning Management Systems Technologists, Manager of Learning Technologies and works in partnership with faculty, Associate Deans, Deans, IT and other service areas of the college to ensure an optimal digital learning environment is in place and e-learning opportunities meet the needs of students, reflect industry standards, changing technology as well as both economic and market influences and externally mandated standards;
• Facilitating the integration of innovative learning technologies into learning environments as well as providing operational leadership to a team responsible for the college’s Learning Management System;
• Spearheading and ensuring leading edge delivery modes are assessed and adopted wherever possible;
• Leading a team to develop and deliver faculty development opportunities to assist faculty in the delivery of on-line, blended and hybrid learning opportunities;
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess a Masters degree in Distance Education or Education (with a technology focus) or a related field along with seven years professional experience in a post-secondary education setting. A Business Administration degree at the undergraduate level would be an asset. Teaching and course program development experience in various delivery modes is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership, team building, communication, interpersonal and people management skills as well as proven research and negotiating skills. Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills and an ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously are essential. The incumbent will be self-directed and committed to a collaborative and collegial working environment. A strong understanding of information technology / PC environment is a must. The successful candidate must have experience in developing and implementing operational and strategic plans that meet organizational goals.
