Ryerson University is known for innovative programs built on the integration of theoretical and practically oriented learning. More than 95 undergraduate and graduate programs are distinguished by a professionally focused curriculum and strong emphasis on excellence in teaching, research and creative activities. Ryerson is also a leader in adult learning, with the largest university-based continuing education school in Canada.

Director, Technology Planning & Innovation

Ryerson’s Faculty of Communication & Design (FCAD) is a national leader for educational programs in media, applied communication, design and the fine and performing arts. Nearly 4,000 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled in the Faculty’s seven schools and one department. To support its schools and department, FCAD relies on leading-edge technology, ranging from multimedia production, and high-definition camera capture and editing, to advanced media computing, and broadcast media production.

Play a pivotal role in the future development of FCAD, as it builds on its capacity as Canada’s premier centre for electronic media and communications research. Focused on cultural change, you will drive technology and innovation by creating a strategic plan that aligns with the Faculty’s Academic Plan, maximizes resources and facilities, and creates a new technology support organization. As a result, this key mandate calls for a proven leader and project manager to plan, supervise, consult on, and participate in the evolution of technical solutions for the Faculty. You will direct Faculty operations, including providing effective curriculum support as well as asset management and development services. This involves overseeing operations within the state-of-the-art Roger’s Communication Centre, which is the technology hub of FCAD. You will also be called upon to assist in fundraising initiatives, building support for development and scholarly research and creative initiatives.

You have 10 or more years of experience in a complex, leading-edge technology management role, guiding teams through change, preferably within an academic setting. Your tactical, operational and leadership background has been gained in a large systems environment where the provision of technology support is essential to the organization’s operation. Naturally, you are adept at organizing, guiding and controlling complex technical projects, including monitoring them to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner. You are a strong communicator who can present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences in one-on-one and group situations. Solid budget management and accounting skills are key, to perform departmental financial tasks, develop costing estimates, and prepare and manage annual operational budgets. A post-secondary degree with an emphasis on media, computer architecture, operating systems, networks and/or programming is required.

For a detailed position description, and to apply on-line by February 22, 2010, interested candidates are invited to visit: www.ryerson.ca/jobs.
