Canada Research Chair in Digital Technologies for Collaborative Knowledge Discovery
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology invites applications for a Tier 1 CRC appointment. UOIT's vision for research is to be committed to and engaged in academic activities of national and international standards, especially those activities with strong potential to address issues of local, regional, national, and global significance. Research activity at this young university has grown dramatically in just a few short years; UOIT has already developed a research profile that is both competitive with, and distinct from, other Canadian universities. UOIT also aspires to be a leading innovator in teaching and learning, while respecting the best practice traditions of Canada's established universities. For detailed information please visit http://www.uoit.ca .
The Chair will be expected to provide visionary and transformative leadership in developing digital technologies for the discovery, construction, visualization, cataloguing, and dissemination of knowledge. This leadership will be directed to applying advances in digital technologies to research and teaching in all Faculties of the University, as well as more broadly to the local, national and international communities. Areas of interest that UOIT has already developed include digital media, health and business informatics, high performance computing, law and communications technologies, online and hybrid education, serious gaming, simulations and immersive environments, virtual eyewitness identification, and a ubiquitous computing environment for teaching and research. The Chair should have strong technical expertise in a field such as computer science, information technology or software engineering, as well as in areas such as communication, education, social science or law.
Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in a relevant field, and extensive research experience in digital technologies, their application and their impact. Demonstrated commitment to research excellence, ability to develop collaborative and interdisciplinary research partnerships and to conduct a dynamic and world-class research program, as well as strong teaching and communication skills, are essential.
The appointment to this tenured or tenure-track faculty position will be at the Professor or Associate Professor level, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant.
Applications will be accepted until February 1, 2010 or until a suitable candidate is found. An application should be sent in electronic format, with the applicant's name and the above competition number in the subject line, to careers at uoit.ca . It should include a covering letter, a curriculum vitae including a list of publications, a statement of teaching interests, an outline of the applicant's present research program, a brief research plan, and a list of at least four referees.
UOIT is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from qualified women and men, including members of visible minorities, Aboriginal peoples and persons with disabilities. Canada Research Chairs are open to individuals of any nationality; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Offers will be made in accordance with the requirements of the CRC Program, described at http://www.chairs.gc.ca .
