Virginia Tech invites applications for the position of Director of
Emerging Technologies and New Ventures. Reporting to Learning
Technologies’ Chief of Staff, the director provides leadership in
identifying and diffusing new technologies, in developing partnerships
and collaborative ventures in the application of new technologies, and
in managing an innovation hub where university community members may
explore, receive training, and gain support for using technology to
benefit learning, discovery and engagement. The director leads a staff
of professionals and students involved in applying multimedia, Web 2.0
tools, and related technologies and in promoting effective uses of
learning technologies across the university and extended community.
The director identifies, develops and manages strategic partnerships
and collaborative ventures that demonstrate innovative, technology-
enriched initiatives in learning, discovery, and engagement. The
director actively collaborates with a team of professional peers in
Learning Technologies to identify, develop, and promote effective uses
of learning technologies. Other responsibilities include actively
participating in New Media Consortium programs; appropriately
supporting activities in an innovation hub for such Learning
Technologies programs as the Faculty Development Institute, the
Graduate Education Development Institute, Assistive Technology,
Digital Imaging, and related initiatives with electronic portfolios
and theses and dissertations; effectively interacting with faculty,
staff and students at Virginia Tech and other colleges and
universities, with vendors, and with a range of external constituents
in the public and private sector. Qualifications: The qualifications
for this administrative/professional faculty position include a
master’s degree in instructional technology or related field, and
experience in the effective integration of technology in teaching,
learning, discovery, or engagement activities in higher education.
Must have strong management skills and creative leadership abilities
and be an effective communicator and collaborator. Should also have
some experience as an innovator in the university environment. How to
