San Jose State University is seeking applications for an:
Associate Dean for Digital Futures, Information Technology & Technical
Services
The Position
The Associate Dean for Digital Futures, Information Technology and
Technical Services will provide leadership for the development of San
José State University Library's digital initiatives & the utilization
of emerging technologies to better serve students and faculty.
The Associate Dean may be in charge of the Library in the Dean's
absence and work as a member of the Dean's Senior Management Team. The
Associate Dean will exhibit leadership, solid management skills,
effectiveness in resource management, and the ability to build
partnerships within the University, throughout the California State
University system and with the community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Providing leadership for the Library's digital initiatives and
innovative use of information technology to develop Library and
University goals and strategies.
Developing and supporting partnerships and ties with various
constituencies including the University and its Colleges, the
University Library Board, and the community of the City of San José to
achieve excellence in the Library's instructional, service and
research mission.
Communicating information about digital initiatives and emerging
technology to Library faculty, staff and administrators and to the
University community, as appropriate.
Supervising the Technical Services and Information Technology Unit
Heads and partnering with San José Public Library management to
coordinate services and operations. Will also serve as SJSU's official
representative to appropriate California State University & Joint
Library committees, and Innovative Interfaces.
Administering the budget allocations for the Information Technology &
Technical Services units and serving on the Senior Leadership Team.
The Ideal Candidate
We seek an academic leader with vision and energy who embraces the

breadth of experience at a high level including a broad knowledge of
information technology (infrastructures, networking,
telecommunications, computing) and academic technology. The ideal
candidate will have the following professional and educational
qualifications.

Demonstrated effectiveness in planning and assessing technology-based
projects
Demonstrated effectiveness in organizational leadership within a
highly participatory team-based workplace environment
Awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a diverse

Excellent presentation skills
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Successful experience in administering budget allocations
Academic library experience is preferred
Minimum Qualifications
A Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (ALA accredited)
or related degree
Five years of demonstrated management effectiveness leading a large
department
Broad knowledge and expertise in information technology including an
understanding of networking and telecommunications
Leadership in academic technology, digital programs and utilizing
emerging technologies to provide innovative library services

The salary is commensurate with the qualifications and experience of
