The AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF PARIS invites applications for afull-time  
position in the Global Communications Department at the rank of  
Assistant Professor. The department actively seeks candidates with  
strong backgrounds in new media as well as global media and cross- 
cultural communications.
The Institution: AUP was founded in 1962. It is a small University  
with a liberal-arts core, dedicated to the advancement of the arts and  
sciences in an international and multicultural environment. It brings  
together the values of the American Higher education system  
(strengthened recently by bi-lateral partnerships with the UC system  
and with NYU) with its privileged location in Paris and at the center  
of Europe. AUP is accredited in the US by the Commission on Higher  
Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The Department: Dedicated to the international and comparative study  
of communications and media in the current context of globalization  
and digitization. Six full-time faculty, 10 part-time faculty, 130  
student majors, 40 MA students and growing.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities: Teaching to include undergraduate  
and graduate courses in some of the following areas: global digital  
media, social movements, visual cultures, global political economy of  
communications, transnational flows of identity and meaning. Ability  
to teach research methods courses including quantitative methods is an  
advantage . Possibility of teaching additional courses in the  
candidate's specific area. Commitment to scholarship, excellence in  
teaching, student advising and university service required.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Communications or Media Studies by time of  
appointment (August 1, 2007). Demonstrated capacity for research and  
engaged teaching. Interest in participating in liberal arts education  
and working in a small team. A strong base in various communication  
studies methods and critical theories.
European Union citizenship or legal right to work in France is a  
decided advantage but not necessary. Fluency in French a plus.  
Additional language mastery a strong plus.
