Four positions

The department is seeking four individuals to fill tenure-track
positions at the assistant professor level.  The positions are the
result of retirements and program growth.

Organizational Communication - The department seeks an individual to
teach and conduct research in the area of organizational communication.
The successful candidate will be required to teach in one or more of the
following areas:  advertising, conflict and negotiation/mediation,
interviewing, public relations, and/or training and development.

New Media - The department seeks an individual to teach and conduct
research on the social, cultural, and technological aspects of new media
and communication. The successful applicant will be expected to teach
theoretical and applied courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Technical skills such as web design, networking, and project management,
the ability to manage a multimedia lab.

Rhetoric and Public Advocacy - The department seeks an individual to
teach and conduct research in the area of rhetorical theory/criticism
and culture. The department is particularly interested in an individual
whose work addresses the role of power in the social/discursive
construction of race, gender, and class in organizations, institutions
and/or societies. Possible areas of expertise might include political
rhetoric, social movements/dissent, rhetoric and aesthetics, rhetoric
and media, rhetoric and performance, U.S. public address, visual
rhetoric, and/or history of rhetoric.

Health Communication - The department seeks an individual to teach and
conduct research on topics broadly related to interpersonal issues
involved in health communication.  The successful applicant should be
interested in areas such as conflict, adherence and influence in
health-related contexts, health promotions, social support, coping,
social marketing, clinical decision-making, relational issues associated
with health, or doctor-patient communication.

All applicants must have the ability to teach in the departmental core
(research methods, argumentation and critical thinking, communication
theory, applied communication, or persuasion).  Normal teaching load
ranges between 18 and 21 semester hours per academic year. Opportunities
for summer employment exist. Academic advising, departmental committee
assignments, research/creative activities and professionally related
service are expected.

Qualifications

ABD required for appointment Ph.D. required for tenure. Evidence of a
clear research agenda and strong teaching are required along with strong
interpersonal, collaborative, and organizational skills.

Deadline

Review of applications will begin October 15, 2007 and continue until
the positions are filled.
