TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN

MEDIA ORGANIZATIONS AND SYSTEMS

POSITION:  ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
	
EFFECTIVE DATE:   Fall semester, 2008

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The Department of Communication at California
State University, San Marcos invites applications for a tenure-track
assistant professor position in the area of media organizations and
systems. A Ph.D. in communication must be in hand by August, 2008.
Applicants must possess active research and teaching programs in media
and demonstrated teaching effectiveness at the undergraduate level. The
successful candidate will work out of critical, qualitative, humanist,
and/or rhetorical traditions.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:  All candidates whose research and
teaching focus in the area of media organizations and systems are
invited to apply, but we are particularly interested in applicants who
have research and/or teaching experience in one or more of the
following: globalization, international, and/or postcolonial
perspectives, political economy, macro media processes, media law, or
media ethics. As the CSUSM Communication Department is a swiftly
expanding program, we look for a candidate who is able and willing to
contribute meaningfully to its development. Ethnic and racial minorities
are especially encouraged to apply.

DUTIES:  Engage in a program of original research; Develop and teach
courses in the area of media organzations and systems in international
or global contexts such as media distribution and regulatory systems,
media law, politics and ethics related to use of, and access to, media
technologies, and qualitative research methods; Assist in developing the
capstone course for the Mass Media major; Teach undergraduate courses in
their area of specialization; Advise undergraduate students; Work
collegially with a faculty who reflect diverse interests and training.

application, curriculum vitae, brief statements of teaching philosophy
and research agenda, and current teaching evaluations. Three letters of
recommendation must be provided. Position is contingent upon funding.
