Sociology.

Ryerson University is known for innovative programs built on the

professionally focused curriculum and strong emphasis on excellence in
teaching, research and creative activities. Ryerson is also a leader
in adult learning, with the largest university-based continuing
education school in Canada. Ryerson's Sociology degree program is now
in its third year. The program offers a curriculum requiring a
substantial commitment to research methods and social theory, with
emphasis on diversity, media and the contemporary urban experience.
Members of the Department work from a range of theoretical
perspectives. For further information about the Department, consult
our web page athttp://www.ryerson.ca/soc.

We invite applications for three tenure-track positions at the
undergraduate level (two at the rank of Assistant Professor, and one
with an open rank), commencing July 1, 2008. One position is dedicated
to Social Research and Statistics; the other two positions are open to
the various specialties taught by the Department, including, but not
limited to, introductory sociology, contemporary culture and media,
and family sociology. We are seeking colleagues who have completed
their PhD prior to the commencement of this position, are strongly
committed to, and experienced in teaching undergraduate students, and
have a demonstrated capacity for scholarship, as indicated by a
publication record of note or promise and a research plan. Candidates
in related disciplines may be considered.

Applicants should submit an application letter, including a statement
of the Ryerson courses they would prefer to teach, a current
curriculum vitae indicating specific courses taught with full academic
responsibility, summary evaluations of teaching, and the names,
addresses, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses of three academic
referees, at least one of whom is clearly identified as being able to
specifically assess the applicant's classroom teaching (please do not
send referee letters at this time), by January 15, 2008, to: Professor
C.T. Gillin, c/o Ms. Elizabeth Johnson, Department of Sociology,
Jorgenson Hall (JOR 302), Ryerson University, 350 Victoria Street,
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M5B 2K3. Applications can be mailed or
delivered by hand to Ms. Johnson. E-mailed and faxed applications will
not be accepted. The Department thanks all applicants in advance and
will only contact those applicants who are to be interviewed.

Ryerson University has an employment equity program and encourages
applications from all qualified individuals, including Aboriginal
peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities and
women. Members of designated groups are encouraged to self-identify.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian
citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
