Digital/Global Media Studies
Seattle University
Communication Department

Seattle University seeks a tenure track faculty member in  
Communication with a focus on digital/global media beginning Fall  
2008.  Courses to be taught would examine how digital media transform  
communication in an interdependent world. They might include how: on- 
line networks redefine community; blogs, gaming, and web sites create  
new means of persuasion; digital media impact global free speech;  
search engines and Wiki-sites transform research and knowledge  
production. The faculty member will teach some of the following media  
areas: theory and history; technology and globalization; web and  
mediated relationships; cultural impacts; digital communication  
rights; web and visual theory. Including international or  
intercultural elements is desirable. Scholarly research is required.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Communication or related field with emphasis  
in digital mass communication. Evidence of excellence in teaching, as  
well in scholarship or related creative work.

effectiveness, and representative scholarly/professional work should  
be sent by email. Review begins Jan. 1, 2008, and continues until  
position is filled.

The Communication Department offers a liberal arts Communication  
Studies major as well as professional majors in Journalism and in  
Strategic Communications. The Communication Studies major currently  
emphasizes rhetoric and interpersonal/cross-cultural communication,  
but will be incorporating stronger digital/global media offerings. As  
part of the Jesuit mission, we help students become thoughtful,  
effective communicators with a desire for service and the promotion of  
social justice.
