DIRECTOR OF THE CENTER FOR DIGITAL RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP
Columbia University Libraries
The Columbia University Libraries is seeking a Director to establish
and lead a new Center for Digital Research and Scholarship. In
partnership with faculty and researchers, and in collaboration with
the Libraries Digital Program, the Libraries Systems Office and the
Center for New Media Teaching and Learning, the Center will advance
the use of new media and digital technologies in research and
scholarly communication activities with a focus on the following
areas: scholarly databases, institutional repository, research data
and cyber infrastructure, electronic scholarly publishing, scholarly
communication policy and practice, web site development and design
services, and video services. Activities will include: consulting and
technical assessment, project development and support, and research
and development. In addition to core funding, the Center will secure
resources through grants, services and publishing activities.
Reporting to the Deputy University Librarian the Director will be a
member of the Management Committee of the Libraries and will be
responsible for:
* Developing the programs and services of the Center including short
and long term planning
* Managing the Center's staff and overseeing its operations including
technology, budgets, grants and facilities
* Coordinating with other Libraries divisions including the Systems
Office, Digital Program and The Center for New Media Teaching and
Learning.
* Conducting program assessment and evaluating and deciding on new
technologies
* Promoting the work of the Center both on and off campus and taking
a leadership role in national efforts to advance academic digital
applications.
The successful candidate will have: A bachelor's degree and a minimum
of seven years experience with digital applications in an academic
setting(or an equivalent combination of education and experience),
demonstrated knowledge of research and scholarly communication and
the supporting technology, evidence of successful managerial
experience in a complex setting, excellent written and oral
communication skills, the ability to work cooperatively and maintain
effective working relationships across organizational lines, and
evidence of innovation and creativity in program and resource
development. An advanced degree, relevant to the work of the Center,
is desirable.
