Job Description
The University of Richmond invites applicants for the position of
Academic Technology Consultant. The position reports to the Liaison
Coordinator for The Center for Teaching, Learning and Technology.
Work with faculty, departmental staff and students to assist them in
effectively using technologies in the teaching and learning
environment. The Academic Technology Consultant (ATC) will assist
faculty with the incorporation of technology into teaching and
learning using sound instructional design theories. The ATC will
serve as the technology liaison to specific departments and will help
faculty in those departments to develop desired skills in using
technology tools. The ATC will work directly with faculty in
developing specific projects, especially web-based projects. The ATC
also works with the library and other information Services divisions
to develop and deliver programs, services and tools that are useful
to faculty using technology in teaching. The ATC will be experienced
in interactive web-based multimedia design/Flash, digital audio/video
and/or web development (php, MySQL, Java, ColdFusion, Oracle, Linux,
XML) experience preferred.
Requires:
* Educational and/or experience in instructional design
* An interest in life-long learning and the life of the mind
* Demonstrated experience in interactive web-based multimedia design/
Flash, digital audio and video experience preferred
* Demonstrated experience in web development/php, MySQL, Java,
ColdFusion, Oracle, Linux and XML experience preferred
* Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer service orientation
* Expert knowledge of widely used hardware, software applications,
resources and technologies.
* Demonstrated ability to initiate, manage, and complete projects
* Demonstrated ability to manage a complex workload, set priorities
and use good judgment in providing services based on established goals
* Excellent verbal and written communications skills
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Ability to work with many different types of people including
students, faculty, and staff (technical as well as non-technical)
* Prefer a minimum of two years experience supporting academic
technologies in a higher education environment
* Function as a consultant to faculty and staff in the integration of
technology into their teaching, learning and research
* Engage with faculty in the effective application of pedagogy and
technology in their teaching
* Use advanced web design techniques and applications, to develop
teaching and learning modules
* Develop workshops and instructional materials for delivery to
individual faculty and small groups
* Find solutions to learning problems and help apply and implement
appropriate technology related tools
* Understand and adhere to intellectual property rights particularly
as they apply to digital materials
* Participate in ongoing research and training in new technologies
* Remain professionally active and contribute to developments in
educational technology
* Serve on committees, as appropriate.
* Bachelor's degree required
* Advanced degree or graduate-level work preferred
