Job Description
Assistant Dean for Digital Futures and Technical Services, Washington  
State University Libraries, Pullman, WA. Provides vision, leadership  
that reflects current needs and anticipates future trends in the  
evolving library and information environment. Oversight for  
collections, acquisitions, cataloging, preservation, serials,  
electronic resources, and systems. Supports collaboration,  
participates in expansion and maintenance of digital initiatives,  
including fundraising and long-term planning. Full-time, 12-month  
position reports to the Dean of Libraries. Required quals.: ALA- 
accredited masters' in library/information science; successful record  
of at least 5 yrs. of substantial administrative or management exp.  
in information technology and/or technical services in an academic  
library, including exp. with personnel supervision at various levels  
and budgeting; exp. with substantive digital projects and  
initiatives, such as digital repositories, federated search, and web- 
based services; excellent interpersonal and collaborative oral and  
written communication skills. Demonstration of the following: exp. in  
leadership, mentoring, and motivation; comprehensive knowledge of a  
large library's varied functions; a history of positive interaction  
with faculty, staff, students, and administrators; understanding of  
current issues and trends facing research libraries, including the  
rapid changes in providing access to digital and physical materials  
to a wide range of constituents; demonstrated commitment to  
diversity; a progressive record of publication and professional  
participation that meets the criteria for tenure at WSU. Preferred  
quals.: Exp. with the following: interaction among different units;  
facilitation of group decision-making and planning; assessment of  
services and user needs; fundraising and resource development;  
demonstrated support for employee development; additional advanced
