Job Description: Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan) is one of  
the nation's leading urban research universities with a demonstrated  
commitment to teaching and learning experiences. With an enrollment  
of more than 33,000, WSU is the 18th largest university in the United  
States. The WSU campus is located in a very attractive, revitalized,  
and growing urban setting, surrounded by museums, theaters, and  
corporate headquarters.

Wayne State University is situated in the cultural center of Detroit  
with a beautiful campus in a park-like setting. The Library and  
Information Science Program offers the M.L.I.S. degree and the  
specialist and archival certificates, a distance education program,  
and is developing a PhD proposal. The program currently has over 550  
enrolled students. Wayne State's Library and Information Science  
Program is one of the largest in the country with a placement rate of  
90 percent within 90 days of graduation over the past five years.

The graduate Library and Information Science Program at Wayne State  
University is seeking candidates who are innovative teachers and have  
demonstrated potential for research and scholarly publications for a  
tenured/tenure-track faculty position. This is a new position and the  
faculty member will have considerable opportunity to shape the  
character and direction of the archives program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Reporting to the Director (Academic), Library &  
Information Science Program and serving as an advisor to the archival  
certificate students, the incumbent will perform research and teach  
in one or more of the following areas: archival administration,  
conservation of materials, preservation of materials, records  
management, archives in the digital world, oral history, electronic  
archives; plus teach one of the LIS Program’s core courses.

QUALIFICATIONS: Assistant or Associate Professor rank requires an  
earned doctorate (with an ALA-accredited M.L.S. preferred),  
appropriate professional experience, and demonstrated ability to  
carry out competently the range of professional faculty functions  
pertaining to archival administration.

QUALIFICATIONS: Assistant Professor - The ideal candidate will have  
exhibited: the ability to produce scholarly research and publication  
in archival administration or a related field; strong potential for  
visibility as a scholar on the national and international levels;  
evidence of professional achievement in archival administration or a  
related field; strong potential for visibility and leadership in the  
archival / library / information profession; ability to supervise the  
work of graduate students and strong potential for excellence in  
teaching and continued professional growth. Highly qualified  
candidates very near completion of the Ph.D. will receive consideration.

QUALIFICATIONS: Associate Professor - The ideal candidate will have  
evidence of: a consistent and demonstrated record of excellence in  
scholarly research and publication in archival administration or a  
related field; visibility as a scholar on the national and  
international levels; excellence in professional achievement in  
archival administration or a related field; visibility and leadership  
in the archival / library / information profession; professional  
recognition in the area of teaching and research in archival  
administration; excellence in teaching; a record of service; and  
experience in supervising the work of graduate students. PREFERRED  
QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to successfully secure grants is desirable.
