The director is responsible and accountable for the development,  
direction, and administration of distance learning programs at  
Youngstown State University. The director enhances and supports  
distance learning activities across the institution; works  
collaboratively with deans, academic department chairs, and other  
relevant parties to provide institutional leadership for long-range  
planning related to distance learning courses and program  
development. Serves as liaison and representative for community-based  
technology and learning projects involving distance learning. Works  
with relevant unions to develop appropriate distance learning  
evaluation/assessment instruments. Works with marketing and  
communications to develop marketing strategy for distance learning.  
Plans, develops and manages technology-related distance learning and  
other special projects. Prepares required reports for state  
institutions. Updates and maintains distance learning website.

Master's degree required, PhD preferred. Area of concentration in  
distance learning, educational administration, instructional design,  
educational technology, information science, communications, or a  
related field. Three to six years of increasingly responsible  
administration of a distance learning or information technology- 
related program. Knowledge of: distance learning instructional  
delivery strategies, methodologies, and systems instructional design  
for distance learning; and technology and its applications to  
education. Highly developed written and verbal communications skills.  
Administrative experience in a higher education academic setting  
highly desirable. Ability to relate well with faculty and academic  
administrators.
