Position: Sociology - Tenure-track Cross-Disciplinary Position

The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences at the University of  
Guelph invites applications for a tenure-track cross-disciplinary  
position in Sociology/Anthropology or in Psychology with a program of  
research and teaching interests that apply to issues in science/ 
technology. Based as a tenure-track faculty member in either the  
department of Psychology or the department of Sociology and  
Anthropology, the successful candidate's teaching will be divided  
equally between the interdisciplinary core of the Bachelor of Arts and  
Sciences program and the home department's discipline. Expectations  
for service will incorporate as equally as possible contributions to  
the BAS program and to the home department. Duties will also include  
graduate teaching and supervision, and the development and maintenance  
of an active research profile. A doctorate is required, with  
demonstrated expertise in Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology or  
relevant interdisciplinary studies. Publications and a demonstrated  
commitment to excellence in interdisciplinary teaching are required.  
The position is at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1,  
2008.

The College of Social and Applied Human Sciences comprises disciplines  
within the departments of Family Relations and Applied Human  
Nutrition, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology/ 
Anthropology. The College also supports interdisciplinary degree  
programs in Criminal Justice and Public Policy, Environmental  
Governance, and International Development. It is the largest college

The innovative Bachelor of Arts and Sciences Program comprises a minor  
(of students' choosing) from the BA program, a minor (of students'  
choosing) from the BSc program, and an interdisciplinary core of  
"ASCI" courses developed for and available only to the BAS cohort of  
students. The program includes a community service component and  
opportunities for independent research and learning, including study  
and volunteerism abroad; students attracted to the BAS program tend to  
be strongly committed to social justice work in such areas as  
literacy, numeracy, global health, poverty, and the environment. In  
its sixth year of operation, the program has already produced highly  
diverse and accomplished graduates, and attracted 900 applications for
