The Division of Preservation and Access provides leadership and  
support for a sustained national effort to preserve and increase the  
availability of resources essential for research, education, and  
public programming in the humanities. Under the supervision of the  
Deputy Director, the incumbent works with potential applicants in the  
development of proposals and participates fully in administrative,  
financial, program policy, and other matters for the division. The  
incumbent reviews grant proposals and assesses their eligibility and  
consistency with Endowment goals; arranges for their review and  
evaluation by expert panelists; and administers the continued  
evaluation and payment for current grants. The incumbent represents  
the division at professional meetings and conducts site visits to  
promote the division's programs and to evaluate the accomplishments  
of the current projects it supports.
Qualification Requirements:
At the GS-12 level: A B.A. in a discipline of the humanities is  
required (an M.A. or Ph.D. is preferred). In addition to the basic  
education requirement, applicants must possess 1 year of specialized  
experience in the humanities at least equivalent to the GS-11 grade  
level in the general schedule. Specialized experience is professional  
experience in the humanities gained in organizations and institutions  
such as cultural organizations, colleges or universities, scholarly  
or grant-making organizations, or non-profit institutions. Experience  
equivalent to the GS-11 grade level would include work in the  
humanities performed with wide latitude for the exercise of  
independent judgment,requiring somewhat extended professional  
training and experience and which has demonstrated important  
attainments and marked capacity for independent work.
At the GS-13 level: A B.A. in a discipline of the humanities is  
required (an M.A.or Ph.D. is preferred). In addition to the basic  
education requirement, applicants must possess 1 year of specialized  
experience in the humanities at least equivalent to the GS-12 grade  
level in the general schedule. Typically, experience equivalent to  
the GS-12 grade level would include work in the humanities performed  
with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, would be  
professional work of marked difficulty and responsibility, and would  
require extended professional training and experience which has  
demonstrated leadership and attainments of a high order.
Qualified applicants will be further evaluated to determine how  
closely they correspond to the standard set for the ideal candidate.  
The ideal candidate will meet the following criteria: (1) An M.A. or  
a Ph.D. in the humanities (for atleast one of these positions, an  
advanced degree in U.S. History or American Studies is preferred);  
(2) Broad knowledge of issues and trends in the library,archives, or  
museum field at the regional or national level; (3) Familiarity and  
experience with issues of digital resources in the humanities; (4)  
Demonstrated speaking and writing ability, as evidenced by recent  
(3-5 years) presentations at professional meetings or other public  
gatherings or by written reports, articles, or other documents  
prepared for public occasions; (5) Administrative experience in  
higher education, libraries, archives, museums, or in other non- 
profit or grant-making organizations.
