Rice University and the Center for the Study of Cultures announce the
continuation of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Postdoctoral
Fellowship Program. Up to three postdoctoral fellows will be selected
for a two-year appointment beginning July 1, 2006 at a stipend of
$40,000 per year plus a moving and research allowance. Fellows will
teach two courses per academic year, will be expected to make
significant progress in their research, and will also participate in
the intellectual life of relevant departments, programs, and Center
research groups. While candidates will hold department affiliation,
we seek candidates who take interdisciplinary approaches to any area
of humanistic study, broadly construed.
Eligibility:
Ph.D. degree received 2002 or after. Applicants who will receive the
Ph.D. degree by July 1, 2006 are eligible to apply. If the Ph.D. is
not in hand at the time of the application, a letter of confirmation
must be received from the committee chair or department stating that
the candidate will have the Ph.D. degree before the term of the
fellowship begins on July 1, 2006.

1. A cover letter
2. A statement of current research including project(s) to be
undertaken during fellowship period (three single-spaced pages maximum)
3. A brief proposal for a one-semester undergraduate course
4. A curriculum vitae
5. Three letters of recommendation
APPLICATION DEADLINE: All application materials (including letters of
recommendation) must be received by December 1, 2005. Applications
should be mailed or express-mailed, not faxed or emailed. It is the
applicant’s responsibility to ensure that all documentation is
complete and that letters of recommendation are submitted by the
