Media Studies - The University of Western Ontario - Assistant Professor

The Faculty of Information and Media Studies (FIMS) at The University
of Western Ontario invites applications for a full-time, probationary
appointment (tenure track) at the rank of Assistant Professor to
begin July 1, 2006.
Candidates must have a PhD completed or nearing completion in Media/
Communication Studies or related area and show evidence of strong
research potential and excellence in teaching. We are looking for
applicants with teaching and research interests related broadly to
the social implications of information and communications
technologies, including one or more of the following areas: human-
computer interaction; online information design, delivery, or use;
media technologies; critical theories of technology; psychological,
social or cultural dimensions of technology; virtual cultures and
communities; issues in technological innovation and implementation.
Expertise in empirical research or quantitative methods would be an
asset.
The normal teaching workload in FIMS is four half courses per
academic year. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability
to contribute to our undergraduate program in Media, Information and
Technoculture and have the potential to teach/supervise in the MA/
PhD program in Media Studies, especially in the Media Technologies
area of specialization.
The Faculty of Information and Media Studies is a vibrant, expanding
unit comprised of some 40 full-time faculty members and about 17 non-
academic staff. The Faculty is dedicated to the advancement of
knowledge about media, communications and information technologies.
It currently offers an undergraduate program in Media, Information
and Technoculture (MIT) with an enrolment of about 700 students, as
well as an MA in Journalism, a Master’s and doctoral program in
Library and Information Science, and an MA and new PhD in Media
Studies. Information about the Faculty and descriptions of its

Western Ontario is a research intensive University of 27,000 full-
time equivalent students.
