Positions
The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations in
the School of Education at the University of North Carolina
Greensboro is seeking applications for two positions. The University
is located in Greensboro, a city of 220,000 in a metropolitan area of
over one million people. The city has six colleges and universities
and is an attractive community with rich historical traditions, a
temperate climate, and a full and active cultural program. The
University is one of the doctorate-granting institutions in the
sixteen campus University of North Carolina system and has an FTE in
excess of 16,000 students, including 3,000 graduate students. The
School of Education hosts a federally supported Regional Education
Laboratory that serves six states.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations
offers Master's, Ed.D., and Ph.D degrees in educational leadership
and cultural studies. Department faculty are involved in an on-going
process of developing programs that emphasize the social context of
schools, ethical concerns, and a transformative vision of educational
leadership and change. We are particularly interested in attracting
candidates who add to the diversity of the department in terms of
race, gender, culture, perspective, academic specialty, and method of
inquiry. The Department offers on-campus programming as well as a
range of alternative programs and courses, including web-based
instruction and distance education.
Position 1: Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (tenured or tenure-
track):
Leadership and Cultural Studies
We are seeking a scholar with an interest in leadership studies/
development in the context of civic, community and cultural settings.
The candidate's work should focus on leadership issues within an
interdisciplinary social, political, and moral framework, and be
consistent with the department's concerns for cultural change, social
justice, and democratic values in educational and other social/
cultural contexts. Requirements for the position are a doctoral
degree in educational leadership, policy studies, social and cultural
foundations of education, or related areas; a scholarly record or
potential, and; capacity for innovative programming.
Position 2 - Assistant/Associate/Full Professor (clinical appointment):
Educational Leadership
We are seeking a practitioner-scholar with a focus on, and experience
in, curricular or pedagogical leadership in K12 schools. The position
is a five year renewable clinical appointment and involves teaching,
intern supervision, service, developing partnerships with area
schools and school districts, and contributing to the development of
innovative departmental programming. A doctoral degree in educational
leadership or a closely-related field, K12 leadership experience, and
eligibility for licensure as a school administrator are required.
Potential for developing a scholarly agenda is highly desirable.
STARTING DATE: August 1, 2006.
SALARY: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
